Larry’s cat Ivy from the Larry Macklin series is a clone of one of our three indoor cats, Daisy. (There are ten more outside – we do live in the country.) Daisy came into our lives as a young single mother living rough on the streets of a small town. We thought she was truly feral, but from the first moment she was invited into the house she never looked back. Daisy is happiest when she’s curled on my chest…usually kneading her paws and drooling. She expects regular cuddle time during the day and it’s taken her a while to adjust to my writing schedule. I gave her this bed beside my desk and that has helped a little. Actually, she is an excellent muse.

As an old retired law enforcement officer your stories are intriguing, thank you.
Thanks for the kind words. I hope you continue to enjoy the series!
Cheers,
Allie
Recently “binged-read” (is that a term?) all your books featuring Larry Macklin! Am especially enjoying them because of your inclusion of the pets in his life. Having 3 spoiled cats myself, I can relate to the calming, loving , frustrating and comical effects they have on our everyday lives; a trait that make all of your characters come alive and seem so real.People make mistakes, people fall in love at inopportune times, we have love/dislike relationships with family members and rarely is anything black and white. Your novels reflect this, your writing feels “true” and are so much fun to read. Thank you and keep em coming!!!!
Hi Laura –
So glad you’re enjoying the series!
I agree that pets seem to make our lives…. Every pet reference in the series is taken directly from, or inspired by, my own experiences with our many cats or with Grendel, the Great Dane my wife and I were blessed to have as part of our lives for 10 years.
If you haven’t already joined my mailing list, please do…. I have a special exclusive set of stories planned for the mailing list, the first of which will feature Mauser :-).
Cheers,
Allie
P.S. — Yes, I think “binge-read” is definitely a term!
I just finished reading all five of the Larry Macklin books. It took me about a week to read them. They were great ! Very interesting flowed nicely… A little romance and humor kept the story real. You did an excellent job on the mystery part of the story . And That’s the whole purpose of the whole story. You had me guessing until the end. Great job! Yes love the cat Ivy and the big dog Mauser. I have a 120 lb Newfoundland dog named Marley. My Marley was named before the movie Marley. Anyway He’s a big sweet goofball too. You keep writing Dear Sir. Thank you.
Hey Paula –
Glad you’re enjoying the series! I’m having a lot of fun writing them.
My wife sends her compliments on your choice of dog breed. Newfies are her favorite after Great Danes. We’d be tempted to have one if it wasn’t for all their hair — not really conducive to the Florida heat…. not to mention the mess they could get into in our creek or hanging out in our horse paddock. Our Dane, Grendel, used to make enough of a mess with his short coat :-).
Thanks again for your nice comments.
Cheers,
Allie
